Gimme Dem Dicks and Cake: When cartoons talk about rap it’s never good
Just caught the tail end of The Regular Show, an episode called “Rap It Up.”
Premise? Black people are mean and rap battles…
What I’m trying to argue is that, from the standpoint of someone who used to write screenplays, that the colors of the skin of those character could of been purple and it wouldn’t have affected the structure of the plot. You could have changed the art form presented and it would not have changed the plot. The problem is that you are so focused on the elements that could b e misconstrued as racist that it became the focal point and only center of attention, rather than looking at the constructed plot as a whole.
No, I don’t think the show was meant to be racist or anti-rap, I think it’s a children’s cartoon with, admittedly shaky moral standards (some of the episodes are way off moral balance), and you’re trying to inject something sinister that simply isn’t there.
Also, grown ups don’t belittle their opponents when they’re debating a topic.
PURPLE
